Online Resources
- An excellent source of biographical information can be found in the Biography Resource Center. This database combines award-winning biographies from a number of different sources. Biography Resource Center also includes full-text articles from hundreds of periodicals. Search for people based on one or more personal facts such as birth and death year, nationality, ethnicity, occupation or gender, or combine criteria to create a highly-targeted custom search.
- The World History database contains biographies of historical figures throughout history. Select Research Lists from the menu on the left of the page for a list of the historical figures in the database.
- A good place to start searching for biographical information is the Alberta Learning Online Reference Centre.
- The Encyclopedia Americana provides you with biographies, web links, and periodical articles on the person you are searching.
- The Biography sites listed at the Ainlay Library web page are good starting points for brief information on biographies. The Biographical Dictionary, A & E Biography, Distinguished Women of Past and Present, and Lives, the biography resource are your best choices.
- To search the World Wide Web, use the search tools available at the Ainlay Library web page. Search terms such as biography and the name of your individual should provide relevant hits.
