Print Resources

  • Search by Series in OPAC or Web Collection Plus to locate the “The World Today Series”. These sources of country information are up to date and are some of the best resources for this project.
  • In the Reference collection these resources are useful:

Online Subscription Resources

  • By selecting Country Reports in EBSCOs Student Research Center you will receive a synopsis of your country including sections on general information, people and culture, environment and geography, economy and government.
  • World Geography provides country information from these sources: Europa World Yearbook, The World Factbook, World Population Prospects and the World Reference Atlas.
  • The general encyclopedias World Book and Encyclopedia Americana available from the Learn Alberta Online Reference Centre are useful for information on countries of the world.
  • Gale’s Discovering Collection is an Infotrac database which has a excellent information on countries of the world. Use the Geography and Cultures Search link to search for your country.
  • Grolier’s Lands and Peoples is a specific world geography database. It is available in the Grolier resources available from the Learn Alberta Online Reference Centre.

Resources for Country Stances on Debate Issues

  • By using the Advanced Search option in Student Research Center you can focus your search to a specific world issue.
  • Academic Search Elite is a periodical database of many of the more respected periodicals and journals in research.
  • Elibrary Canada includes a collection of both print and media sources of information. This database is included in the Online Reference Centre (ORC) at the Learn Alberta site.
  • Opposing Viewpoints is a collection of essays which examine social and world issues. If you are looking for your nation’s position on the issues in the debate this resource may provide you with arguments and evidence.
